The upcoming Royal Enfield Classic 650 will be quite the premium proposition.
Royal Enfield is all set to launch its sixth 650 cc offering in India, the Classic 650, on March 27. While we already know a lot about the bike, all that now remains to be revealed is its official ex-showroom price. The Classic 650 will be an expensive proposition and thereby is expected to slot above the Bear 650, and the Shotgun 650 — the last two 650 cc bikes from the Chennai-based bikemaker.

For reference, the Royal Enfield Bear 650 starts from ₹3.40 lakh, and the Shotgun 650 is priced at ₹3.60 lakh (both ex-showroom prices, Chennai). We reckon that the upcoming Classic 650 will start from ₹3.60 lakh - ₹3.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Chennai). This will help Royal Enfield to position the bike as its flagship offering and, in the process, will have quite the aspiration value attached to it. Its smaller iteration, the Classic 350, has been a very important bike for RE, as it single-handedly overturned the company’s fortune. There’s a lot of legacy behind the “Classic” badge, and the upcoming Classic 650 will try to carry forward the same in a much more premium and polished package.
Much of the flagship Classic 650’s framework will be from the Shotgun 650, including the engine, main chassis, brake and suspension components. However, it will be the heaviest bike in RE’s portfolio and will tip the scales at 243 kg. Royal Enfield will also fit the Classic 650 with specially developed MRF Nylohigh tyres, which will help distinguish itself from the other 650 cc bikes. Royal Enfield has not changed the performance figures, though. The 648 cc, parallel-twin mill will continue to deliver the same 46.35 bhp and 52 Nm, and will come mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
