Here's everything you need to know about the new Samsung foldable smartphones— the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6.
At its Galaxy Unpacked event in Paris, Samsung Electronics unveiled its latest foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold6 and Galaxy Z Flip6. Samsung aims to solidify its position in the foldable smartphone segment and says its new foldable devices blend cutting-edge hardware with advanced AI capabilities.
The Galaxy Z Fold6 introduces significant improvements over its predecessor, the Fold5. Most notably, the device boasts a new aspect ratio for its cover screen, now at 22.1:9, offering a more natural viewing experience. The cover display has grown to 6.3 inches, while the main foldable screen maintains its impressive 7.6-inch size.
The Fold6 is the slimmest and lightest in the Galaxy Z series yet. When unfolded, it is 1.5 mm shorter and 2.9 mm wider, 0.5 mm thinner, and a substantial 14g lighter than the Fold5, weighing 239g.
The main screen now boasts a peak brightness of 2,600 nits, delivering vivid visuals for gaming and media consumption. Ray tracing support further elevates the gaming experience on the device.
It is powered by Qualcomm's top-of-the-line SoC, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This chip delivers enhanced AI processing capabilities, improved graphics, and better performance. A larger vapour chamber ensures efficient cooling during intensive tasks.
The Galaxy Z Fold6 leverages its unique form factor to provide an array of AI-powered features, including Note Assist, Composer, Sketch to image and PDF overlay translation. The device also fully integrates with the Google Gemini app, giving users an AI-powered assistant accessible through a simple swipe or voice command.
While the camera hardware remains largely unchanged from the previous model, the Galaxy Z Fold6 features the AI-powered ProVisual Engine. It enhances photo editing capabilities, offering tools like Portrait Studio for image editing.
The Galaxy Z Flip6 receives significant upgrades while maintaining its compact design. Some of the key improvements include a larger 3.4-inch Super AMOLED screen with expanded widget support and AI-assisted functions.
Samsung has upgraded the primary camera to a 50MP sensor with 2x in-sensor zoom and digital zoom up to 10x. It has up to 12GB RAM (up from 8GB in the previous model) and a larger 4,000mAh battery. There's a new Auto Zoom feature for hands-free photography in Flex Mode.
Both devices get Armor Aluminum and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. They also boast an IP48 rating, a first for foldable phones. The company promises seven generations of OS upgrades and seven years of security updates for both models. The Galaxy Z Fold6 and Flip6 are secured by Samsung Knox and offer enhanced data protection features.
Pre-orders for both devices have started, with general availability starting July 24. The Galaxy Z Fold6 starts at Rs 1,64,999, while the Galaxy Z Flip6 is priced at Rs 1,04,999 for the base model.
