Škoda Auto Volkswagen India team marks the rollout of the 500,000th Made-in-India engine at its Pune plant.
Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) has reached a significant milestone by producing 500,000 locally manufactured engines at its Chakan facility in Pune. The Chakan plant has been operational since 2014, with a focus on producing high-quality powertrains that meet stringent global standards while increasing localisation. The milestone underlines SAVWIPL’s growing contribution to both domestic and international markets.

Andreas Dick, Škoda Auto a.s. Board Member for Production and Logistics, said, “Producing 500,000 engines at our Pune facility is a significant milestone, reinforcing India’s role in our global manufacturing network. Our investments in technology and workforce development continue to enhance our production capabilities, ensuring high-quality and cost-effective powertrains.”
Piyush Arora, Managing Director & CEO, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited, added, " We will continue to invest in expanding our capabilities and strengthening India’s position as a hub for world-class automotive manufacturing.”

The Chakan facility produces two key powertrains: the 1.0-litre TSI engine and the 1.5-litre TSI engine. The 1.0-litre TSI engine features advanced exhaust emission technology, while the 1.5-litre TSI engine is equipped with Active Cylinder Technology (ACT), enhancing fuel efficiency by deactivating two cylinders under low load conditions. At present, the Skoda Slavia, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Virtus and the Volkswagen Taigun employ this powertrain.
