Škoda Starts Peaq Production in Mladá Boleslav as Orders Cross 8,500

Škoda Auto has begun series production of the Peaq, its largest and most expensive electric SUV to date, at the Mladá Boleslav plant in the Czech Republic. The model shares an assembly line with the electric Elroq and Enyaq and the combustion-engined Octavia Combi, a arrangement the company says allows it to shift production between models as demand dictates.

The Peaq has been well received since going on sale in June, with Škoda recording nearly 8,500 orders by the end of July. In its most powerful form, the SUV carries a 91 kWh gross battery, the largest fitted to any Škoda yet, and is rated for more than 640 kilometres of range. A smaller 63 kWh pack is also on offer, with power outputs spanning 150 kW to 220 kW and a choice of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

At 4.87 metres long, the Peaq is Škoda's first entry into the large SUV segment and its biggest vehicle since joining the Volkswagen Group. Fitting it onto an existing line built for smaller cars required notable retooling: larger production skids for improved ergonomics, a new manipulator to install its third row of seats, and upgrades across the press, body and paint shops. The SUV rides on the Modular Electric Drive Matrix platform it shares with the Enyaq and Elroq, which Škoda says has helped it absorb the new model without disrupting output of the others.

"The new Škoda Peaq represents the pinnacle of our range in terms of comfort, spaciousness and technology, while its production also meets the most stringent standards of quality, efficiency and flexibility," said Andreas Dick, Škoda's Chief Production Officer. He added that building four models, three of them electric, on a single line reflected the adaptability of the Mladá Boleslav workforce.

The launch fits into a broader reshuffling of Škoda's Czech manufacturing footprint. The Enyaq became the first electric model on the Mladá Boleslav line in 2020, followed by the Elroq in January 2025. Since May, the Octavia Combi has also been built at the Kvasiny plant alongside the Octavia liftback, freeing capacity at Mladá Boleslav for electric models, which accounted for close to 23 per cent of Škoda's Czech output in the first half of 2026.

Škoda has also started building the Epiq, a smaller electric crossover aimed at urban buyers, at Volkswagen Group's Pamplona plant in Spain under a shared platform initiative for compact electric cars. Between the Peaq and Epiq, the brand has effectively doubled its electric line-up in the space of a few months.

The expansion comes as Škoda consolidates its standing in Europe, where it was the second best-selling brand in the first half of the year. For a manufacturer historically associated with value-focused models, the Peaq marks a deliberate step upmarket, betting that demand for larger, longer-range electric SUVs will hold even as European EV adoption remains uneven across markets. The strong early order numbers suggest that bet is, for now, paying off.
