Suzuki Bids Farewell to the Jimny in Europe with France-Exclusive 55th Anniversary Edition

Suzuki is marking the end of an era for its iconic Jimny in Europe with a special edition exclusively for the French market. The Suzuki Jimny 55th Anniversary Edition is a limited-run model that pays tribute to the subcompact off-roader’s 55-year legacy and global sales milestone of over three million units. Only 55 units of the anniversary edition will be made available.

The Jimny has faced regulatory hurdles in the European Union in recent years, particularly due to increasingly stringent CO₂ emissions standards. Originally pulled from EU passenger car line-ups in 2020, it returned briefly in some markets as a commercial vehicle. However, by mid-2024, the model had effectively disappeared from most EU showrooms, including Germany. This final edition in France marks a last appearance before the current generation is phased out entirely in the region.

The 55th Anniversary Edition is based on the Jimny Privilège V.U., a French-market light commercial version, and incorporates a mix of nostalgic and practical features. Unique to this edition are several visual and commemorative elements which includes a retro-style Suzuki grille and side decals, a soft spare tyre cover featuring the stylised rhinoceros’ logo long associated with the Jimny, a custom rubber floor mats, red Jimny-branded mudflaps, and a leather-bound logbook, and a specially designed keychain and a personalized plaque with the vehicle’s production number.

The model will be available in four exterior colours: White, Jungle Green, Bluish Black, and Medium Grey. These enhancements are layered onto an already well-equipped base vehicle, which includes features like air conditioning, heated seats, Bluetooth connectivity, lane departure and lane change warnings, automatic high-beam assist, and traffic sign recognition.

Technically unchanged, the vehicle retains the core mechanical attributes that have defined the Jimny’s appeal among enthusiasts. It is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 101 bhp, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It features Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro part-time four-wheel-drive system with a low-range transfer case—ideal for serious off-road use. With approach, departure, and break-over angles of 37°, 49°, and 28°, respectively, the subcompact SUV continues to be one of the most capable off-roaders in its segment.

Weighing in at just 1,090 kg and measuring 3,480 mm in length, the Jimny’s subcompact dimensions and mechanical simplicity have made it especially popular in both urban and rugged environments.

The 55th Anniversary Edition is priced at €28,955 (approx. ₹28.86 lakh). Orders were open from June 2 to June 10, 2025, with all units reportedly allocated within the short booking window. Deliveries are scheduled to begin later in June. While this marks the formal end of the current-generation Jimny in France and the wider EU, the model is expected to continue in other global markets. Suzuki has not indicated whether a future iteration tailored to meet stricter European emissions regulations is in development.
