Tata Electronics has recently hired Reda Masarwa, Intel's former global construction vice-president.

In a bid to set up India's first semiconductor fabrication facility, Tata Electronics is bolstering its leadership team with senior hires from global chip giant Intel. The company is preparing to establish a Rs 91,000 crore ($10.50 billion) wafer fab project in Gujarat's Dholera region, says a report by DigiTimes.

Senior Intel Execs Join Tata Electronics

Leading this transformation is Randhir Thakur, who joined as CEO and Managing Director in April 2023 after serving as president of Intel Foundry Services. Under his leadership, the company has recently added Reda Masarwa, Intel's former global construction vice-president, as senior vice president of construction and facility operations, reported Economic Times (ET).

Beyond the Gujarat fab facility, Tata Electronics is also developing its existing operations in Hosur and establishing a new assembly, testing, and packaging unit in Assam.

The company's recruitment drive has extended to other key positions, with Intel veterans Bhavna Madhwal and Scott Holden joining to lead executive hiring initiatives.

The report added that this targeted recruitment strategy aligns with Thakur's vision to build a core team of experienced professionals who can execute the company's ambitious plans.

Masarwa's appointment is also strategic, given his experience overseeing construction engineering for Intel's global chip manufacturing facilities. His expertise spans operations across multiple countries, including the United States, Ireland, and Israel.

The semiconductor initiative is part of a broader expansion strategy by the Tata Group. During a recent announcement, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran revealed plans to inaugurate nine factories within the next two years, backed by an $18 billion investment commitment to electronics and semiconductor operations.
