Tata Motors also has the highest individual scores of any Made-In-India car tested by the global safety watchdog.
Another 5-star score from Tata Motors may come as no surprise anymore. But this is the first time that we have had a crash test result on the Tata Harrier and Safari. And it comes as the company’s first result under Global NCAP’s updated and more stringent protocol. And here’s the kicker. Tata also has the highest individual scores of any Made-In-India car tested by the global safety watchdog.
Models | Adult Occupant Protection | Child Occupant Protection |
---|---|---|
Tata Harrier/ Tata Safari | 33.05 | 45 |
29.71 | 42 | |
29.64 | 42 | |
28.18 | 42 | |
29.25 | 28.93 |
Alejandro Furas, Secretary General, Global NCAP said, “Global NCAP congratulates Tata on the five-star twin model rating for the Safari and Harrier. This very strong result, the top adult and child safety score in our testing to date, confirms the manufacturer’s strong commitment to developing safer vehicles, which we warmly welcome and applaud."
The tests carried out in Germany showed the Harrier and Safari have 33.05 of a total of 34 points for adult occupant protection. And 45 of the possible 49 points for child occupant protection This puts them in the number one position on the list of Indian cars crash-tested. This should not be surprising given that the twin models use Land Rover’s D8 platform, which has scored ably at other NCAP programs in the past too.
As with all such tests, the Harrier and Safari were tested for frontal offset impact, side impact protection, the mandatory pole test, and also for pedestrian protection. There was also stability testing to see how the ESC works. The two cars come with six airbags, seatbelt reminders for all passengers, and ESC as standard. They also have ADAS as an option.
Global NCAP says these voluntary tests are among the last few results in the Safer Cars for India campaign ahead of Bharat NCAP beginning testing in India soon.
