Tata Motors secured the second position in Indian passenger vehicle sales for May 2026, recording a 42% year-on-year volume growth to 59,790 units.

Tata Motors emerged as the second-largest passenger vehicle manufacturer in India in May 2026. The company strengthened its position in the market with strong demand for popular models such as the Nexon and Punch.

According to the official statement from the manufacturer, total passenger vehicle sales volumes reached 59,790 units in May 2026, registering a healthy 42% year-on-year growth compared to the 42,040 units recorded during the same month last year.

Within the local market, passenger vehicle wholesales rose 42% to hit 59,090 units from 41,557 units in May 2025. International business operations also saw positive movement, with export shipments climbing 45% to reach 700 units against 483 units in the corresponding month of the previous year.

This robust performance helped the brand maintain its place just behind market leader Maruti Suzuki, showcasing its strong presence across both internal combustion engine and electric vehicle segments.

A significant contributor to this growth was the electric vehicle division, which includes data from its subsidiary Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited. Tata’s combined domestic and export EV volumes expanded by 85% to reach a monthly record high of 10,517 units, up from the 5,685 units registered in May 2025.
