The move comes into effect as Tata looks to fend off competition from the newly launched Mahindra XUV 3XO.
Tata Motors has added an entry-level variant to its popular Nexon SUV, in the form of Nexon Smart (O) priced at ₹8 lakh for the petrol trim, making it ₹15,000 more affordable than the previous base, Nexon Smart, priced at ₹8.15 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The move comes into effect as Tata looks to fend off competition from the newly launched Mahindra XUV 3XO that retails at ₹7.49- ₹15.49 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Additionally, Tata Motors has also slashed the prices of the Smart + and Smart + S variants by ₹30,000 and ₹40,000, respectively, reducing its sticker price to ₹8.90 lakh for the Nexon Smart + and ₹9.40 lakh (both prices ex-showroom, India), for the Nexon Smart + S. This is in addition to two new diesel variants- Smart + and Smart + S, positioned as the new base trims, priced at ₹10 lakh and ₹10.60 lakh (ex-showroom, India), taking the price down by ₹1.10 lakh.
In terms of features, the Nexon Smart (O) receives 6 airbags, ESC, LED headlamps and taillamps with DRLs, multi-drive modes- Eco, City & Sport, 2-spoke steering wheel with illuminated logo, front power windows, and reverse guiding lines. In the new diesel variants- Smart+ and Smart+ S, the Nexon receives a 7-inch centre touchscreen, wired Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, reverse camera, steering mounted controls, all power windows, along with auto headlamps, voice-activated sunroof, and rain-sensing wipers.
Mechanically, the Tata Nexon employs both petrol and diesel engines, coupled with a slew of gearbox options including manual and automatic units. The Nexon competes in the subcompact SUV segment rivalling the newly launched Mahindra XUV 3XO, as well as the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza and Fronx, Toyota Taisor, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger.
