The new Tata Sierra was on display at the 2025 Auto Expo, and will bring premium features as well as modern design to a very competitive SUV segment.
Tata Motors is reportedly ready to launch its long-awaited Sierra SUV, a revival of a nameplate that was popular across India before most of today’s popular international car brands even launched here. The new 2025 Tata Sierra has been previously confirmed by the company to be on track for a launch within the current financial year. It is expected to debut in petrol and diesel as well as electric avatars, though it is not yet clear whether both will launch at the same time.
The new SUV, which has been in the works for at least two years, was shown off at this year’s Auto Expo, so not a lot of surprises are expected in terms of design. It has also been spotted testing on roads multiple times, in partially disguised form, over the past few months.
As we have already seen, Tata is paying homage to the legacy of the original Sierra in terms of design, although buyers can expect plenty of updates and all the modern conveniences. The new model is likely to have an imposing, boxy stance and could be offered in bright, attention-grabbing colours if the Auto Expo exhibit is anything to go by. It should also debut with LED light bars across the front and back, fully flush door handles, and slick angles.
Expected to be positioned below the Harrier, it should compete with the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Kia Seltos, Škoda Kushaq, and possibly even the upcoming Renault Duster revival.
The new Tata Sierra is likely to be offered with a 1.5 litre turbo-petrol direct injection (TGDi) engine, while the diesel option could reuse the same 1.5 litre engine used for the Curvv. The electric powertrain is likely to be based on the same platform as Tata’s Harrier.ev and could deliver up to 500km per charge.
Tata Motors is also very likely to submit the new Sierra for NCAP crash tests in advance of its launch. Multiple recent models from the company have been awarded five-star safety ratings, so the Sierra is well positioned to achieve the same standards.
On the inside, spy shots have heavily suggested that a three-screen setup will be at least an option on high-end trims, if not standard. We can also expect a Harman audio system and infotainment suite, a panoramic glass roof, ambient lighting, and modern safety features including six airbags minimum as standard, 360-degree cameras, and possibly ADAS.
Tata Motors is also expected to soon launch its Punch facelift and several other new models and variants within the next few months.
