With this, the two models become the first ever CNG models to get an automatic gearbox in India. An automatic gearbox with the CNG powertrain will be hugely welcome as it will add a dose of practicality. It will help boost Tata Motors sales as many customers have been demanding an automatic gearbox for CNG models.
While, the Tiago CNG AMT will be available in three variants – XTA, XZA+ and XZA NRG – the Tigor CNG AMT will be available in two variants – XZA and XZA+. Furthermore, Tata Motors has introduced three new colour options with the Tiago CNG getting Tornado Blue, Tiago NRG getting Grassland Beige and Tigor CNG getting Meteor Bronze.
Both CNG vehicles get a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 84 bhp and 113 Nm in petrol mode and 72 bhp and 95 Nm in CNG mode. Along with the 5-speed AMT, these are also available with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Both also get Tata Motors’ new twin-cylinder technology that helps improve boot space.
Expect the Tiago and Tigor CNG automatics to be priced at a premium of roughly ₹60,000 over their manual counterparts. The Tiago CNG MT is priced between ₹6.55 lakh and 8.10 lakh (ex-showroom) and the Tigor CNG MT is priced between ₹7.80 lakh and 8.85 lakh.
