Tesla has opened a new office in Mumbai, which could support its expanding operations, including sales, service, and exploring potential manufacturing.
Tesla, the American electric vehicle giant, has bolstered its presence in India by opening a new office in Phoenix Marketcity, Kurla, near Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).
This move follows Tesla’s deal to secure its first India showroom in BKC, which happened earlier this year.
The new office, strategically located in one of Mumbai’s key commercial districts, is poised to support Tesla’s expanding operations across sales, service, and potentially manufacturing in the region.
Speculation about Tesla’s plans for local manufacturing in India has intensified. The company has been in talks with the Indian government to explore incentives for establishing a production facility, which could reduce costs and make Tesla vehicles more accessible to Indian consumers.
While no official confirmation has been made, the Mumbai office could play a pivotal role in facilitating these discussions and laying the groundwork for future investments.
The opening of the Mumbai office follows Tesla’s earlier moves in India, including a Bengaluru office and a registered entity in 2021.
As Tesla continues to navigate India’s complex regulatory landscape, the BKC office underscores its long-term vision to become a key player in the country’s electric vehicle ecosystem, contributing to India’s sustainable mobility goals.
India’s electric vehicle sector is experiencing significant growth, driven by government incentives and increasing consumer demand for sustainable transport. Tesla’s decision to establish a presence in Mumbai aligns with its broader strategy to tap into this burgeoning market.
The BKC office is expected to serve as a central hub for coordinating Tesla’s activities, including customer engagement, marketing, and after-sales support, as the company seeks to cater to India’s urban elite and environmentally conscious buyers.
