In a significant leadership change, Tesla's top executive in India has left the company just as the electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer moves closer to launching its products in one of the world's largest automotive markets, according to a Bloomberg report published on Thursday.
The report, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter, indicates that Prashanth Menon has resigned from his position as chairman of Tesla India's board after nearly nine years with the Elon Musk-led organisation.
Following Menon's departure, Tesla's operations in India will be managed by the company's China-based teams. No immediate replacement has been announced for the vacated leadership role.
This executive transition comes at a critical juncture for Tesla's India strategy.
Just two months ago, the company signed a lease agreement for its first showroom location in Mumbai, according to a previous Reuters report.
This development signalled a revival of Tesla's India market entry plans, which had been temporarily shelved last year.
According to news agency Reuters, when asked about Menon's resignation, Tesla representatives did not provide an immediate response to requests for comment. The timing of this leadership change could impact Tesla's momentum as it prepares to establish its presence in what ranks as the third-largest automotive market globally.
