The growing popularity of adventure motorcycles in the country reached new heights.
From BMW Motorrad to Honda and Suzuki to KTM – the diverse kind of adventure bikes these marques brought to our shores surely left us excited and thrilled. Here are the top five options that stood out the most:
Honda kickstarted its 2024 campaign with the NX500, a nice road-biased adventure tourer. At ₹5.90 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), it does feel expensive for a 500 cc bike, especially when you consider its competition which includes the likes of the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450. However, when you factor in that parallel-twin engine’s smooth performance, coupled with that nice tall body design, plus Honda’s reliable reputation – the NX500 comes across as a nice well-rounded bike that won’t let you down, no matter what the circumstances are.
BMW’s flagship adventure tourer, the R 1300 GS, landed on our shores at a whopping ₹20.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), replacing the old R 1250 GS. Unlike the latter, the new GS focuses on being lighter, faster and much easier to ride than before despite its gargantuan kerb weight of 237 kilos (which is 20 kilos lighter than the R 1250 GS). Despite the increase in capacity, the 1,300 cc, liquid-cooled, boxer engine is now more symmetrical which was achieved by shrinking its size. And yet BMW managed to eke out 10 bhp and 6 Nm more than before. We had a great time when we got to take it out for a spin in the Himalayas. You can read all about it here.
The new 2024 Triumph Tiger 900 GT and Rally Pro variants were launched in India at ₹13.95 lakh and ₹15.95 lakh (Ex-showroom price, Delhi), respectively. Both bikes were refreshed to be more comfortable and capable. The 888 cc, inline-three engine was also updated for more power and torque, which was achieved without compromising on its frugality. But the icing on the cake with both these bikes are its immaculate build quality that Triumph is known for. This last bit further helps enhance the ownership experience.
The Suzuki V-Strom 800DE emerges as a compelling adventure motorcycle at ₹10.30 lakh, delivering exceptional value. This middleweight ADV masterfully combines a punchy 776cc parallel-twin engine producing 84.3 bhp and 78 Nm with serious off-road credentials, including 220mm ground clearance and a 21-inch front wheel. What makes it truly stand out is its versatility - from the character-rich 270-degree crank engine to the comprehensive electronics suite featuring multiple riding modes and a bi-directional quickshifter. Alongside the KTM 1390 Super Duke R, the launch of the 890 Adventure R was another big surprise from KTM India this year. Priced at ₹15.80 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), it slots in perfectly between Triumph Tiger 900 variants. Its 889 cc, parallel-twin engine produces a hearty 103 bhp and 100 Nm of peak torque. The KTM 890 Adventure R is a versatile bike that can easily do long-distance touring and off-roading.
