The Land Cruiser is one of the most iconic Toyota models globally, and so is the Land Cruiser Prado. The latter used to be available in India at a point in time and Toyota is planning to launch the latest generation of the SUV in India this year. Ahead of that, the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, also known as the Land Cruiser 250, has been spotted testing in India.
Strangely, while the Prado is on the cards to be launched in India, it wasn’t showcased at the 2025 Auto Expo. However, it is likely that it will launch in India in 2025. If launched, the Prado will rival the Land Rover Defender and Jeep Wrangler.
The Prado spotted in India has vertical slats in the grille with a big Toyota logo and a camera. It also has rectangular headlamps with amber indicators as well as a big bumper with small LED fog lamps. The Prado has chunky ORVMs with vertical side indicators and camera modules for the 360-degree camera.
Inside, the Prado gets TOYOTA lettering on the steering wheel, a large infotainment touchscreen (probably measuring 12.3 inches), a wireless charging pad, a digital instrument cluster and an all-black cabin.
While powertrain details for the India-spec model remain a mystery, the global-spec model gets two engine options. One is a 2.8-litre diesel engine, while the second is a 2.7-litre petrol engine. Both engines send power to all four wheels but while the diesel engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission, the petrol engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It is likely that Toyota will get the diesel engine as that is visible on the car spotted in India.
