One teaser image clearly shows off the similarities between the upcoming Land Cruiser and Lexus GX
Toyota has released a number of teaser images for the upcoming Land Cruiser. However, this version of the legendary SUV will likely not be the J300 series, but a closer relative to the Lexus GX. Technically, if this holds true, Toyota will launch the Land Cruiser Prado in the North American markets under the Land Cruiser name, but in most other markets, it will have the ‘Prado’ suffix.
The full-size Land Cruiser J300 series, currently sold in India and commands an astronomical waiting period, was not launched in North America. Hence, the last full-size Land Cruiser that North America received was the J200 Series. Either way, the teaser images show off a number of things.
The first teaser image, which shows the front fascia from a side angle, also has a special guest in the way of the iconic J60 version of the LC. There’s a rectangular grille upfront with an ‘egg crate design’ and larger lettering for the Toyota logo. All the other teaser images also showcase an incredibly squared-off and stocky stance.
Another teaser released earlier showed the upcoming ‘Land Cruiser’ opposite an original FJ series clearly highlighting the similarities between the Lexus GX and teased model. Whether it's the up-kicked window line, rear styling, taillight shape, bumper shape or exhaust pipe, it’s pretty evident where this particular version of the Land Cruiser gets its inspiration. Toyota is most likely to equip the North American Land Cruiser with a 3.4-litre, V6 motor along with a hybrid powertrain either from the Tacoma or Tundra. Some markets could also see a diesel engine option on offer.
Whether it’s the Land Cruiser or Land Cruiser Prado, one thing this SUV will definitely have is off-roading prowess. All that’s left is to wait for the unveiling date, which is set for August 1st at 9:20 p.m. (EDT). For the viewers in India, that means August 2nd at 6:50 a.m. We’re extremely excited to see what one of the world’s top automakers has to offer!
