Toyota unveiled the Urban Cruiser Ebella in January this year, opening bookings at the same time, but has been silent about its actual launch date and pricing since then. However, the company has now announced an actual price: ₹23.6 lakh (ex-showroom). The company’s statement also aims to reassure customers that it is committed to launching and supporting electric vehicles as it works towards a carbon-neutral future.
The company has also confirmed a BaaS (Battery as a Service) option which will reduce the upfront cost, but details and exact pricing have not yet been confirmed. There is also no confirmed delivery window yet.
Buyers can choose from five monotone colours: Cafe White, Bluish Black, Gaming Grey, Enticing Silver, and Sportin Red, as well dual-tone versions of all other than black.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella, which is Toyota Kirloskar’s rebadged and customised version of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, will be available in India in only a single configuration, called E3. No other variants have been confirmed yet. The Ebella will have a 61kWh battery, and its motor will output 128kW of power with 193 Nm of torque. The company previously announced a top range of 543 km per charge, certified by the Automotive Research Association of India, for this battery capacity.
Both AC and DC fast charging are supported via the CCS2 charging standard, for versatility. The company claims a 10-80 percent charge in 45 minutes using DC fast charging. Remote charging operation, scheduling, and battery monitoring are supported through Toyota’s i-Connect service which includes smartwatch compatibility.
A 49kWh battery option was announced at launch time, but there is no confirmation about potential lower-cost variants with this smaller battery. The company’s website still lists this option.
Toyota’s first electric model in India, the Urban Cruiser Ebella is a premium SUV and is priced considerably higher than the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, which starts at ₹16.99 lakh. The Hyundai Creta Electric is also more affordable at ₹19.24 lakh along with the Kia Carens Clavis EV at ₹18.94 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).
The company promises spacious interiors, a premium cabin, and great performance. Features include premium LED lighting, dual-tone cabin finishes, 18-inch alloy wheels, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting with 12 colour options, sliding and reclining rear seats, a panoramic roof, and premium JBL sound system.
The Ebella has a 10.25-inch digital cockpit and 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
In terms of safety, Toyota has equipped this car with L2 ADAS, seven airbags, and 360-degree cameras. It also promises a high-tensile body structure.
