We expect the upcoming Triumph Bonneville 400 to make its debut at the end of this year, priced around ₹2 lakh (ex-showroom).
Triumph is working on another entry-level motorcycle from the 400 series that recently got downsized from the earlier 400 cc to 350 cc. This upcoming bike will take up the “Bonneville” nameplate which is an iconic brand under Triumph’s global lineup. The Bonneville 400 will be the seventh model in the Triumph 400 series after Speed 400, Scrambler 400 X, Scrambler 400 XC, Speed T4, Thruxton 400, and the recently-launched Tracker 400.
The Baby Bonneville has been caught testing on foreign soil on a couple of occasions in the recent past. Just a few days back, a test mule of the new Bonnie was also spotted in India and now another unit of the upcoming modern classic roadster has been clicked on camera. While the previous spy pic showed the Bonneville 400 at a standstill, the latest images show the motorcycle on the move.
There are some other highlights that visually differentiate the earlier test mule to the latest unit. The previous prototype was backed by chrome elements on the crank case, peashooter exhaust muffler, and pillion grab rail whereas in the latest spy shots, the test unit gets all blacked-out components. This gives the bike a more sporty appeal than the usual old-school retro charm.

It also suggests that Triumph will offer multiple variants of the Bonneville 400 to suit the tastes of different riders. Something similar is offered by Royal Enfield for the Classic 350 which is deemed as the prime rival to the upcoming Bonneville 400. Other visual elements such as a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, a single-piece seat, a set of round mirrors, and a circular instrument console, are same as the previous test mule.

The latest click highlights components like a round LED headlight, oval taillight, and circular LED indicators, giving it a nice blend of retro styling with modern equipment. Speaking of equipment, the hardware kit consists of a telescopic fork and twin shock absorbers, spoked wheels, and disc brakes at both ends.
The Bonneville 400 is likely to be powered by a 349 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine, similar to the unit seen in the updated 400 range. That said, it could be tuned differently to better suit its retro-inspired character. For context, this engine produces 36.4 bhp at 8,000 rpm and 32 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm in the Speed 400. The engine will be paired with a six-speed gearbox.
