Next Triumph launch has been confirmed by Bajaj’s chief. We discuss the possible segment, pricing as well as launch timelines.
Triumph Motorcycles has confirmed the exciting news of a new 400cc motorcycle coming this year. This will be the third product to emerge from the successful partnership between Triumph and Bajaj Auto in India.
Rajiv Bajaj, Managing Director of Bajaj Auto, revealed plans for the new motorcycle during a recent interview. He emphasised the company's focus on the 400cc segment, stating, "that gives a good position to be in, against the competition." This strategy follows the well-received launches of the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X, both manufactured in India by Bajaj.
Bajaj confirmed that "there are several products in development right now" and that "we can expect a new motorcycle this year. And indeed for the next three years at least." This hints at a steady stream of new Triumph offerings.
Speculation suggests the new motorcycle could be a cafe racer based on the Speed 400, possibly taking the name Thruxton 400. This would provide a semi-faired version of the Speed 400, addressing customer requests for a more substantial body style. You can read more about it here - Triumph Speed 400-based Thruxton 400 Café Racer Spotted Testing.
Leaked images of the test mule reveal a motorcycle that closely resembles the existing Speed 400 in its core bodywork. However, key differences set it apart for the cafe racer role. A prominent feature is the addition of a stylish cafe racer front cowl, reminiscent of the design found on the larger Speed Triple RR. This contributes to a nostalgic yet modern look. Further distinguishing the Thruxton 400 from its Speed 400 cousin is a minimalist rear LED tail lamp and repositioned turn indicators. While the seat appears similar, the test mule sports a square-shaped pillion grab rail, offering a more functional design for carrying a passenger. Adding to the cafe racer spirit, the upcoming Triumph Thruxton 400 clip-on handlebars and rear-set foot pegs.
The launch is expected around the festive season later this year, slotting the Thruxton 400 below the Scrambler 400X in Triumph's lineup. There have been sightings of this motorcycle internationally.
