This upcoming cafe racer bike will be built on the same platform that also underpins Triumph’s other 400 cc bikes.
We’re just a few days away from bidding 2024 adieu, but for Triumph India, 2025 seems to have already begun. The British marque was recently spotted testing a new bike around Bajaj’s manufacturing plant in Pune, without any camouflage. What makes this new bike all the more eye-catching is that nice, round, and voluptuous retro-fairing design at the front, which till now was reserved with the Triumph Thruxton R and Speed 1200RR. So, while we still can’t say for sure if the upcoming bike will be called the Thruxton 400 or the Speed 400 RR? Either way, we know for sure it’s a new cafe racer, and it will be built on the same platform that also accommodates the Scrambler 400X, Speed 400, and the newly launched Speed T4.

Therefore, the single-cylinder, 399 cc, liquid-cooled mill will also remain the same. This engine is expected to churn out around the same 39.5 bhp and 37.5 Nm, as we have seen with the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400X – However, the final drive might be altered to suit the cafe racer’s character. The power plant will come paired with a six-speed gearbox for sure, though.
As for its underpinnings, we expect the upcoming Triumph Thruxton 400/ Speed 400 RR to carry forward the same USD fork/ monoshock setup, as its siblings. Disc brakes at both ends can be easily gauged here, while the wheels seem to be 17-inches at both ends – just like the Speed 400.
Feature-wise, neither of the 400 cc Triumph bikes comes packed with all the bells and whistles. However, the basics have been addressed in all three bikes, and the same should continue with the Thruxton 400/ Speed 400 RR as well. This includes all LED lights, a semi-digital instrument cluster, and USB C-type charging ports. Dual-channel ABS should be standard, and along with that traction control might be included here.

Either way, given the kind of exclusivity and pride that cafe racers like the Thruxton R and Speed 1200 RR have enjoyed over the years – We expect Triumph might repeat the same with this upcoming bike. Plus, given the Triumph Speed 400 is priced at ₹2.40 lakh and the Scrambler 400X is priced at ₹2.65 lakh – we think Triumph’s upcoming 400 cc cafe racer will command a slightly premium price tag, we wager somewhere between ₹2.50-2.60 lakh (ex-showroom).
