The particular patent design does not confirm whether it is an electric or an ICE scooter.
Patent images of a new scooter filed by TVS Motor Company for the Indonesian market have recently surfaced online. Details about the scooter are still unclear, as we can’t figure out if it will be an all-electric offering or an ICE-powered two-wheeler. However, certain elements indicate that it might be based on the same platform that also underpins the all-electric TVS iQube.
For starters, the rear section looks very similar to the TVS iQube, especially with that single rear tail light strip. The bulging shape further indicates that there might be a mid-mounted electric motor underneath. Coupled with that flat floorboard, which is very similar to that of the iQube, further indicates that it might be because batteries are placed there. However, the face of the scooter patented here is quite a departure from the iQube’s design. There’s a separate headlight cowl, complemented by a tall windscreen, while the apron houses the turn indicators.
All in all, unlike the TVS iQube’s distinct voluptuous appeal, the new scooter patented here looks squarish, especially with that flat seat. The other interesting detail is the wheels, as the wheels on the patent image look like 14-inch alloy units.
A few weeks back, TVS’ MD and newly appointed Chairman, Sudarshan Venu had confirmed that the brand is working on a new affordable electric scooter. To that extent a new camouflaged electric scooter being tested in real world conditions was also spotted, but whether the test mule and the patented image are the same or not – we can’t say for sure yet. As for TVS’s upcoming affordable electric scooter for India, we reckon it could be based on the Jupiter 110 platform, similar to Honda used the Activa e:’s platform for the QC1.
