This new 299 cc, single-cylinder mill is touted to boast a race-tuned spec and will be happy to rev all the way to the redline.
TVS has taken the opportunity to announce a brand new single-cylinder engine called RTXD4 300 at the fourth edition of its annual bike festival, TVS MotoSoul in Goa. This 299 cc, liquid-cooled mill produces 34 bhp at 9,000 rpm and 28.5 Nm of peak torque at 7,000 rpm. It has been built completely in-house by TVS, and its biggest clarion call is the slew of “Dual” technologies that the Hosur-based manufacturer has employed.
Starting with its DOHC setup (dual overhead camshaft), which most performance-oriented bikes, like the KTM 390 Duke, for example, have. TVS has redesigned the cam with a downdraft port, which TVS says will help make the engine very rev-happy. In-between gear speeds should feel more exhilarating. Speaking of which, the RTXD4 300 will come paired with a 6-speed gearbox, with an assist and slipper clutch as well.
There are dual oil pumps with a split chamber crankcase and dual jacket chambers for more efficient cooling. The cylinders are also coated in plasma for smoother piston travel, thereby facilitating efficient burning and better overall efficiency. A dual separator breather system and a thermal management system onboard, are the other highlights of this new mill.
The engine’s throttle control will be handled by ride-by-wire. And while TVS has not officially said anything, this tech will, by default, bring out different ride modes and thus give us a complete purview of its race-tuned spec. TVS claims that the RTXD4 has been engineered to deliver high-speed performance, yet it will be very accessible. While we have yet to find out the bike, the new RTDX4 300 will power. Currently, in the 300 cc segment, TVS has the Apache RR and RTR. Will this engine power a brand new bike, perhaps TVS’ much-anticipated adventure option that we’ve been waiting for long? All that is now left to be confirmed.
