The first, likely to be the Carens EV, will arrive in the second half of 2025, while the other will come sometime in 2026.
Kia India’s Vice President and Head of Sales & Marketing, Hardeep Singh Brar, at a recent media interaction, revealed that the South Korean manufacturer intends to launch two new electric vehicles by the end of 2026.
Brar didn’t specify which EVs will be coming but only hinted that the two electric vehicles will be more mass-market models rather than its current offering of premium EVs. The two new EVs will be launched starting in the second half of 2025. The second model will come sometime in 2026. He also added that it will be a “grounds-up EV” meaning it could be a born-electric vehicle like the EV3 or EV5. But this is unlikely as they will not cater to the mass market. It seems like the next electric vehicle that Kia might launch in India will be the Carens EV. That also is likely to be built on a new platform, one that will be shared with the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV.
Gwanggu Lee, the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Kia India, dismissed the idea of the EV3 coming to India. In an exclusive interaction with Acko Drive, he said that at the moment Kia has not yet considered bringing the EV3 to India. He added, “It’s always nice to know the kind of progress in India in terms of electrification. So we started as a premium brand like EV6 and EV9 and then we applied this EV technology to these mass products in the portfolio and later if the market has developed in terms of electrification, we will be open to applying this kind of technology in the Indian market.”
There are no details about the second EV that Kia India has in store apart from the fact that it too will be a mass-market EV. It remains to be seen which segment this new EV will cater to.
