Both the electric scooter are impressive on paper, but which feels more impressive of the two?
The Tesseract is an important offering for Ultraviolette Automotive. It marks the Bengaluru-based brand’s debut into the electric scooter segment, which has matured enough in the past few years to have several strong contenders. One of the most refined, sharp-looking, intuitive, error-free offerings of them all is the Ather 450X. Can the Tesseract become our new default go-to performance electric scooter recommendation ?
Bookings for the Ultraviolette Tesseract has been off to a pretty solid start, and we think it very well might. Check out the comparison below to find out why:
For starters, the Ultraviolette Tesseract looks quite extraordinary, something that you would get access to only in a video game. It’s big, sharp, bulky, and yet proportional. Right from those sleek robot-style LED headlight, to that prominently sporty rear panel design – the Tesseract looks pretty substantial. It rides on 14-inch wheels, which further adds to its meaty looks.
The Ather 450X is a lot more athletic and lean. It is still the first-gen design which has been in the market for quite some years now. It isn’t aging badly but it is very recognisable.

Underseat Storage Capacity | 34-litre | 22-litre |
Ultraviolette has put the large body to good use in the form of a massive 34-litre boot space and a sizable spacious-looking seat. However, a heavier kerb weight will be the price you’ll have to pay on the flip side. While Ultraviolette is yet to officially reveal this number, we reckon the kerb weight might be above 150 kg.
On the contrary, the Ather’s sleek and compact body style might force you to have just 22-litres of underseat storage space, but at the same time it weighs just 122 kg with its biggest battery option.
Ultraviolette Tesseract | Ather 450X | |
Battery | 3.5 kWh/ 5 kWh/ 6 kWh | 2.9 kWh/ 3.7 kWh |
Range | 162 km/ 220 km/ 261 km | 126 km/161 km |
Charge | 20%-80% In Under 30 Minutes | 0-80% in 4 hour 30 minutes/ 0-100% in 5 hours 45 minutes |
The Ultraviolette Tesseract clearly gets the benefit of bigger battery pack options. Its smallest battery is of 3.5 kWh capacity, while Ather’s biggest battery is 3.7 kWh. This helps Ultraviolette to extract more range which in turn might encourage some to embark on those short distance trips outside the city. Or go for weeks without necessitating a charge.

Electric Motor | 15.12 kW p | 6.4 kW |
Top Speed | 125 kmph | 90 kmph |
0-40 kmph | 2.9 seconds (claimed) | 3.3 seconds |
Ultraviolette is able to have a larger motor pushing out more performance for longer with its larger battery pack. Even though it might turn out to be heavier than the 450X, the Tesseract is quicker than the 450X on paper. Ather has the 450 Apex that has a comparable acceleration time but outright performance is where the Ultraviolette will have the edge.
This is where the Tesseract edges past the 450X by leaps and bounds. It gets F77-derived 4-levels of regen braking, two traction control modes, hill-hold assist, and Park Assist. The biggest talking point is the availability of radar-based ADAS with blindspot warning that it will debut in the segment. Features like on-board navigation, notification alerts, etc are available, but there’s a wireless charging pad in the mix as well. These are features that you would usually find in a car, but you get that in a scooter now.
The Ather 450X does not lack features. Its 7-inch TFT touchscreen comes with Google Maps integrated into it, along with all the usual plethora of smartphone connectivity features, including WhatsApp alert as well, plus call and music control.
Despite packing in so much and looking like a million bucks, the Ultraviolette Tesseract is priced from ₹1.45 lakh (introductory ex-showroom price is ₹1.20 lakh). We reckon this will be the entry level Tesseract 3.5’s price with a 3.5 kWh battery. With all the bells and whistles the mid and top Tesseract 5 and 6 trims will easily cross the ₹2 lakh threshold, but by how much is yet to be revealed.
The Ather 450X starts from ₹1.47 lakh with the smaller 2.9 kWh, and with the bigger 3.7 kWh battery will set you back by ₹1.57 lakh (both ex-showroom, Bengaluru).
So, if you want to create a statement with your electric scooter and want all the attention in your neighbourhood, then the Tesseract will serve your purpose. But you will have to join the long waiting list as it will only be delivered come Q1 of 2026.
