The Type 01 utilises Formula E technology and signifies the start of a new era for the Tata-owned luxury brand.
Ahead of the Monaco E-Prix, Jaguar has showcased its next-generation luxury four door grand tourer, the Type 01, on the historic street circuit. The prototype made its public appearance wearing a distinctive camouflage wrap that highlights its dramatic silhouette while paying homage to the racing heritage of the brand. This demonstration marks a pivotal moment as the manufacturer transitions into an exclusively electric era.
The Type 01 serves as the first model in a new era for the British brand, with its nomenclature reflecting this shift. The 0 signifies zero tailpipe emissions and electric propulsion, while the 1 denotes its position as the debut vehicle of this refreshed line up. Designed and manufactured in the United Kingdom, the GT aims to blend high performance with refined comfort, a duality that has defined the brand since the introduction of the C-type in 1951.

Technical development for the vehicle has been heavily influenced by the Jaguar TCS Racing Formula E team. Engineers have integrated track proven technology, including all wheel drive control software and silicon carbide powered inverters, to ensure the car offers instinctive responses and composure. Furthermore, advancements in regenerative braking, battery range, and rapid charging capabilities have been directly filtered down from the world championship winning motorsport programme.
Rawdon Glover, the managing director of Jaguar, stated that the engineering teams adopted a competition mindset to create a luxury vehicle that drives unlike any other electric car. While the prototype remains under a vibrant artistic wrap for now, the production version is scheduled for a full global reveal later this year. The company expects the Type 01 to set a new benchmark for modernist design and pioneering technology, forming the foundation for all future models in its portfolio.
