Maruti’s upcoming electric MPV has been spied. It is likely to share a lot of components with the e Vitara.
Maruti Suzuki is making some good progress with its second electric vehicle for the Indian market, which is currently being developed under the codename YMC. This upcoming model will be an electric MPV and was recently spotted during road tests in India. Based on the latest sightings and development timelines, the new EV is expected to make its official market debut by late 2026.
The recent test mule was spied in a parking area, giving observers a closer look at its design and features. Although some initial reports suggested it might be a next-generation version of the popular Ertiga, several design cues point toward it being a dedicated EV. The car features alloy wheels very similar to those found on the recently launched e Vitara. Additionally, the lack of a traditional front grille and the presence of specific air vents in the lower bumper suggest a cooling system designed for a floor mounted battery pack.

The YMC will be built on the Heartect e platform, which is a dedicated skateboard architecture developed specifically for electric cars. This setup allows for a flat floor and a more spacious cabin. Maruti Suzuki aims to provide a high level of comfort, with internal reports suggesting a focus on premium seating and a feature rich interior. Expected amenities include a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver display, ventilated seats, and a panoramic sunroof.
In terms of performance, the electric MPV is likely to share its powertrain options with the e Vitara. This means it could offer two battery pack choices, specifically a 49 kWh unit and a larger 61.1 kWh unit. By sharing components across its EV lineup, Maruti Suzuki hopes to price the YMC competitively against rivals like the Kia Carens Clavis EV.
