The refreshed M2 now produces 20 bhp more thanks to a re-tuned engine.
BMW India has launched the updated M2 at ₹1.03 crore (ex-showroom, India) for the automatic version, and the manual version costs ₹1 lakh more. The refreshed M2 is ₹3.10 lakh more expensive than the outgoing model. The updated M2 comes with a few cosmetic updates, more power and some new features.
The refreshed M2 comes with the same 3.0-litre, twin-turbocharged, inline-six engine but now develops 473 bhp, 20 bhp more than before. Peak torque remains unchanged at 550 Nm with the 6-speed manual and 600 Nm with the 8-speed automatic. BMW has improved the airflow, adjusted the camshaft timing and made the crankshaft lighter, which helps the engine produce that extra 20 bhp.
The extra power improves the acceleration figures of the M2 by 0.1 seconds. With the manual gearbox, it can do the 0-100 kmph sprint in 4.2 seconds and with the automatic, in 4 seconds. BMW says it has also made changes to the throttle mapping and response in all drive modes, which it says will help improve the driving characteristics.
Cosmetically, the new M2 doesn’t get a lot of changes. There’s a new design for the alloy wheels for the staggered 19- and 20-inch configuration, with a black finish as standard and a dual-tone finish is an option. It also gets blacked-out badging and blacked-out exhaust tips. It is available in eight exterior colour options and new colours include Sao Paolo Yellow, Skyscraper Grey, Dragon Fire Red and Portimao Blue.
The new M2 gets a new flat-bottom steering wheel and BMW’s new iDrive 8.5 operating system for the 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. One can also choose carbon-fibre bucket seats which are available as an optional extra.
There are no direct rivals for the BMW M2 but the Mercedes-AMG A 45 S 4Matic+ at ₹93.65 lakh comes close but it develops less power. The AMG A-Class churns out 416 bhp and 500 Nm.
