A tripartite agreement between Dorna (MotoGP officials), Fairstreet Sports (Bharat GP organisers) and Invest UP scheme
In order to safeguard the Bharat GP from any future scares or issues, the Uttar Pradesh government, via its Invest UP initiative, is going to undergo an agreement that will make sure the racing circus continues to arrive in the country every year until 2029. Invest UP, Fairstreet Sports and Dorna officials will sign on this agreement with Dorna to be paid the ₹ 80 crore license fee for next year’s Bharat GP well in advance.
Even though it was slated to be on the calendar this year, the Bharat GP faced a few financial as well as logistical troubles that forced the organisers to postpone the event to the start of next season. While it would have been great to see the teams this year, there’s a strong likelihood of the race being a season opener and as such would see a pre-season test also being conducted at the Buddh International Circuit.
Nevertheless, the Uttar Pradesh government plans to create an escrow account through which the ₹ 80 crores will be handed over to Dorna for the necessary licensing and sponsorship fees. A further ₹ 70 crores would be generated via sponsorship and ticketing, as the estimate to run each race is roughly ₹ 150 crores. In case enough revenue isn’t generated, which is likely to have taken place for the 2023 event, the government’s Invest UP initiative will mobilise the funds through its activities.
Hopefully, this would work out well and encourage the Indian fans to see the race being held in the country. And if the season opener does work out to be in India, then it would be the first time that Marc Marquez will adorn the factory Ducati colours in a race and current championship leader Jorge Martin ride for rival Italian factory team, Aprilia.
