The X100 Ultra establishes itself as an imaging powerhouse right off the bat with its quad camera system.
Vivo has taken the wraps off its powerful new X100 smartphone lineup for 2024, led by the ultra-premium X100 Ultra flagship that pulls out all the stops in both imaging and performance. The company also unveiled refreshed X100s and X100s Pro models packing the latest Dimensity 9300+ SoC.
The X100 Ultra establishes itself as an imaging powerhouse right off the bat with its quad camera system spearheaded by a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto lens. It utilizes Samsung's 1/1.4-inch HP9 sensor – the largest ever used in a smartphone telephoto camera – allowing for improved light capture and detail. Then, there's a dedicated V3+ imaging chip that handles enhanced night mode, 4K portrait videos, Dolby Vision capture, and more.
The 200-megapixel resolution combines with an 85mm equivalent focal length, 3.7x optical zoom, Zeiss optics, and OIS to enable long-range photography with incredible sharpness. In addition, a class-leading 4.5-stop CIPA rating ensures steady shooting.
For the primary camera, Vivo used Sony's 1-inch type LYT900 50-megapixel sensor, which features gimbal-level stabilization like previous X-series flagships. An ultrawide 50-megapixel camera rounds out the triple-camera array.
The X100 Ultra's video recording credentials are just as strong. It can shoot 8K footage and 4K video at up to 120fps. Vivo's new in-house "BlueImage" computational photography engine is also debuting on the X100 Ultra. Eight years in the making, BlueImage aims to eliminate many common photo-taking woes like backlit subjects and low-light noise through advanced algorithms.
Under the hood, the X100 Ultra is powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip. It pairs the blazing-fast silicon with a generous 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and speedy UFS 4.0 storage that tops out at 1TB.
The X100 Ultra has a curved design and premium build featuring an aluminium frame and glass back. It features a 6.78-inch 1440p LTPO AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, a punch-hole 50-megapixel selfie camera, stereo speakers, and a large 5,500mAh battery with 80W wired and 30W wireless charging support.
It will be available in Titanium, White and Grey colours when sales open on May 28 in China. Prices start at CNY 6,499 (₹74,900) for the base 12/256GB model and CNY 7,999 (₹92,200) for the top 16/1TB tier.
Vivo also unveiled the X100s and X100s Pro as mid-cycle refreshes of last year's X100 lineup powered by MediaTek's enhanced Dimensity 9300+ chip. The "plus" model has a higher 3.4GHz peak CPU clock speed than the standard 9300, and the faster ARM Immortalis-G720 GPU improves AI performance.
On the imaging front, the X100s Pro packs Vivo's older but still excellent V3 imaging processor, a large 1/0.98-inch 50-megapixel primary camera sensor, and a 64-megapixel periscope tele lens with 3x optical zoom.
The standard X100s gets the older V2 chip but upgrades to a larger 5,100mAh battery compared to last year's model. Both phones retain the excellent 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display and gain IP69 protection against high-pressure water jets.
Pricing for the X100s starts at 12/256GB for CNY 4,999 (₹57,600) and tops out at CNY 6,499 (₹74,900) for 16/1TB. The X100s Pro begins at CNY 5,499 (₹63,460) for 12/256GB and maxes at CNY 6,999 (₹80,660) for 16/1TB.
The X100s and X100s Pro will be available in Titanium, White, and Black/Grey, with the standard model also offering a Green option. They will go on sale alongside the X100 Ultra on May 28 in China. There's currently no word on the X100 Ultra global debut.
