The ID.4 will rival the upcoming Skoda Envaq as well as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and Volvo XC40 Recharge.
At its latest annual brand conference (ABC), Volkswagen showcased the ID.4 electric SUV in India for the first time. While the German marque has confirmed that the ID.4 will launch in India, it didn’t mention when exactly. However, expect it to launch in India sometime this year, making it the brand’s first electric vehicle in India.
When launched, the Volkswagen ID.4 will rival the upcoming Skoda Enyaq as well as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and the Volvo XC40 Recharge. The Volkswagen ID.4 is expected to retail around ₹50 - 60 lakh and the Enyaq could also be priced similarly. Volkswagen has confirmed that the ID.4 will come to India as a completely built unit (CBU), but Skoda hasn’t confirmed if it follow the same route for the Enyaq. The Ioniq 5 is priced at ₹46.05 lakh, the EV6 is priced at ₹60.95 - 65.95 lakh, and the XC40 Recharge is priced at ₹54.95 - 57.90 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, India). In terms of length, the XC40 Recharge (4,400 mm) is the shortest vehicle of the lot, nearly 184 mm shorter than the next shortest vehicle in this list, the Volkswagen ID.4 (4,584 mm). Speaking of which, the ID.4 is the narrowest vehicle in this list, at 1,852 mm, it is nearly 21 mm narrower than the XC40 Recharge (1,873 mm).
The Kia EV6 has the shortest height in this comparison, at 1,570 mm it is 46 mm shorter than the Skoda Enyaq (1,616 mm). The Ioniq 5 has the longest wheelbase, measuring 3,000 mm. Despite the longer wheelbase, the Ioniq 5 is also the lightest vehicle of the lot, 53 kg lighter than the Volkswagen ID.4.

The Volvo XC40 Recharge’s dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variant is the most powerful electric vehicle in this list, with 408 bhp and 660 Nm. The least powerful model in this list is the single-motor, rear-wheel drive variant of the Volkswagen ID.4. This variant of the ID.4 also has the smallest battery – 62 kWh – and the least claimed range, at 336 km on a single charge. While the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variant of the ID.4 and the Enyaq have the biggest batteries, the Kia EV6’s 77.4 kWh battery delivers the highest claimed range of all the vehicles here, 708 km on a single charge.

All models here get an 11 kW wall box charger as standard, however, charging times differ depending on the battery size. The ID.4 and Enyaq take the longest to charge completely using the 11 kW charger. The Ioniq 5 has the quickest charging time using the wall box charger.
When it comes to fast charging, all vehicles come with different fast charging support. The Ioniq 5 and and EV6 have the quickest charging time using 350 kW, taking only 18 minutes to charge from 10 - 80 per cent. All the other three take 28 minutes to charge from 10-80 per cent. The Skoda-Volkswagen models come with 120 kW DC fast charging support, while the XC40 Recharge gets 125 kW fast charging support.
