The Volkswagen Tayron 5-seater is the new entry variant liberating more boot capacity and a lighter price tag.
Volkswagen India has launched the new Tayron five-seater variant, priced at ₹41.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The Volkswagen Tayron five-seater is the new entry variant into the lineup and is positioned below the Tayron R-Line, which went on sale in the country earlier this year. While the VW Tayron R-Line is priced at ₹46.99 lakh, the new five-seater brings the SUV at a lower cost, albeit missing a few features in the process.

Commenting on the launch, Nitin Kohli, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India, said, “The Tayron Life reflects our commitment to introduce global products that resonate with Indian customers. In line with our plans, we are introducing the 3rd product action for this year, with Tayron Life that is locally assembled. With its spacious layout, premium comfort, advanced technology including Level 2 ADAS and signature German engineering. It strengthens our premium SUV portfolio while delivering a compelling proposition centred around performance, space, comfort and driving confidence."
The Volkswagen Tayron gets the non-R-Line bumper with simpler lines and chrome inserts. It retains the full-width LED DRL, projector LED headlamps, and an illuminated VW logo, while the alloy wheels are different on the model. The Tayron also misses out on the gloss black elements, although the wheel arches and roof rails continue to be the same. The rear profile continues to sport connected LED taillights, but the bumper has been revised and a simpler unit compared to the R-Line variant.
The cabin on the lower-spec Volkswagen Tayron opts for a dual-tone theme, unlike the all-black interior. There's 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, tad smaller than the 15-inch screen you get on the R-Line. The digital instrument console has been retained. The illuminated panel on the passenger side of the dashboard is given a miss. VW is offering other features such as the panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and electrically adjustable driver’s seat with this variant.
The big change, however, is the lack of the third row of seats on the lower-spec Tayron, which makes this a proper five-seater. It also liberates boot capacity from 345 litres with all three rows up, to a large 885 litres with the removal of the third row. The Tayron Life 5-seater is akin to the Škoda Kodiaq Lounge variant, which is priced at ₹36.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

There is no change in the powertrain and the Volkswagen Tayron uses the familiar 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine tuned for 201 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. The motor is paired with the 7-speed DSG automatic sending power to all wheels via all-wheel drive. The SUV comes with Level 2 ADAS on the entry trim.
The Volkswagen Tayron is locally assembled in India unlike the Tiguan R-Line, which allows the automaker to play around with the variant lineup to make the model more palatable for buyers across different price points.
