Reliance, at its 46th AGM, revealed that it was launching its Jio AirFiber service, which will catapult the 10 million user base of Jio Fiber to 2200 million users. While Jio Fiber promised hyper-fast broadband connectivity, it cannot be accessed by all users as the user needs to be in an area where Reliance’s Fiber lines exist. Jio has announced AirFiber, its fixed-wireless broadband offering to mitigate this issue and enable last-mile fibre connectivity.
“Through optical fibre, we can currently connect around 15,000 premises daily. But with Jio AirFiber, we can supercharge this expansion with up to 150,000 connections per day,” said Mukesh Ambani, Chairman & MD at Reliance.
With AirFiber, Reliance uses its 5G network to provide comparable broadband speeds in the realm of 1GBps but wirelessly, without requiring Fiber lines to be pulled.
AirFiber is a 5G base station that can be activated without needing the Fiber optical line to be in the region of use. Essentially, it is a WiFi hotspot device that leverages the Jio True5G network with speeds capable of reaching up to 1 Gbps and support for WiFi 6.
The AirFiber device comes with the Jio Home app, which offers WiFi access management options and an AI-backed Proactive Quality Monitoring feature that ensures a reliable and uninterrupted internet connection.
The Jio AirFiber will launch on September 19, which is when Reliance will reveal more details about the pricing and availability.
