WhatsApp is working to bring an innovative feature that will let users manage multiple accounts in a single app, according to Wabetainfo. While this functionality is currently being created for iOS (iPhone) users, some earlier reports suggest similar efforts were made for Android devices.
The new feature represents a significant change from the current system, where users must rely on separate applications -- the standard WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business -- to maintain two accounts on one device.
The feature remains in development for iOS and will be released to TestFlight beta testers in an upcoming update. Android users may see this functionality sooner, as it has already been made available to select beta testers, as per WABetaInfo.
"As you can see from the attached screenshot, WhatsApp is exploring the implementation of a feature that allows users to log into different accounts using a single app, scheduled for release in a future update. This new feature will especially be useful for people who use WhatsApp with multiple phone numbers, whether for personal, professional, or other purposes," Wabetainfo wrote on its page.
According to WABetaInfo, the upcoming iOS feature will provide users with two options when adding an additional account: they can either establish it as their primary account with a fresh start or connect it as a companion account by scanning a QR code.
The feature, once implemented, will enable seamless switching between accounts without requiring multiple app installations or devices.
This move for WhatsApp mirrors the functionality already present in Meta's Instagram platform, where users can easily toggle between different accounts within the same app.
This development will particularly benefit users who wish to maintain separate personal and professional communications, as well as those who currently use WhatsApp Business despite not operating a business.
