WhatsApp users can now send voice messages that disappear after being listened to one time.
WhatsApp has begun the rollout of view once voice messages in an attempt to bolster privacy features on its popular messaging app. An extension to its view once feature for photos and videos, WhatsApp users can now send voice messages that disappear after being listened to one time.
In a blog post today, WhatsApp announced the new feature, which allows people to "share sensitive information over voice message with added peace of mind." Like view once photos and videos, view once voice messages are clearly labelled with an icon indicating they can only be played once.
The update marks WhatsApp's ongoing efforts to give users more control over their private conversations. "View Once is just another example of our continued privacy innovation," the blog post reads.
Like all WhatsApp messages, view once voice messages are also protected with end-to-end encryption by default. It ensures only the sender and recipient can listen to the message and nobody in between, including WhatsApp.
The new feature is rolling out globally to WhatsApp's billions of users over the coming days.
