WhatsApp has announced two new updates to further strengthen privacy controls
WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform, has announced two new updates to further strengthen privacy controls. The two new additions: Silence Unknown Callers and Privacy Checkup, have already been rolled out to users.
The Silence Unknown Callers feature is designed to give users increased privacy and control over incoming calls. This feature enhances protection by automatically screening out spam, scams, and calls from unknown sources. While these calls will not ring on the user's phone, they will still be visible in the Call list, allowing important calls to come through.
In addition, WhatsApp is introducing Privacy Checkup, a step-by-step guide that educates users about the various privacy settings available on the platform. This comprehensive feature walks users through selecting the appropriate level of protection for their messages, calls, and personal information. By accessing the Privacy settings and choosing 'Start checkup,' users can easily navigate through multiple privacy layers, ensuring their security is strengthened.
Starting this week, WhatsApp will encourage individuals to contact friends and loved ones via private messages, emphasising that these interactions provide a secure environment for open conversations.
While WhatsApp has already implemented robust security measures such as end-to-end encryption, it continues prioritising user privacy by adding additional layers of protection with features like Chat Lock, Disappearing Messages, screenshot blocking for View Once, and more.
Here's a quick guide on how to silence unknown callers on WhatsApp for both Android and iOS devices.
Open WhatsApp and tap on the "Settings" option.
In the Settings menu, select "Privacy."
Tap on "Calls."
Look for the toggle switch related to silencing unknown callers and move it to the on or off position, depending on your preference.
By enabling this setting, silenced calls from unknown numbers will still appear in your Calls tab and Notifications. However, your phone will not ring, allowing you to filter out unwanted calls while keeping track of them for future reference.
