WhatsApp's new update aims to make planning get-togethers easier without needing additional apps.
WhatsApp has introduced a new feature update allowing users to organize events directly within groups on the app. The new update aims to make planning get-togethers easier without needing additional apps, whether arranging a virtual meeting or an in-person event like a birthday dinner.
With the new events feature, any WhatsApp group member will be able to create an event listing that others in the group can respond to indicate their attendance. Events will also be displayed on the group's information page so that members can see upcoming plans. Those who confirm they are attending an event will receive a notification as it approaches.
The events feature was initially rolled out for groups that belong to WhatsApp Communities, which is the platform's new feature for connecting multiple related groups. Over the coming months, WhatsApp plans to make events available across all groups.
In addition, WhatsApp is introducing a way for members to reply to announcements from admins in Community announcement groups. Replies will be grouped and minimized to allow users to see responses in context without cluttering the chat. In addition, notifications for replies will also be muted to prevent excessive alerts.
A spokesperson commented that since launching Communities, the company has seen them used by neighbourhoods, schools, hobby groups and others to help communities stay connected.
