World

We might have some activity in the electric motorcycle scene as well.

Electrics have come a long way in the country, especially electric scooters that have really made a big impact on daily mobility solutions. The e-scooters that are roaming our streets are certainly world class. So, on World EV Day 2024, here’s what one should expect to see on our Indian streets in the next few months:

Hero Vida V1 More Affordable Variant

3

Hero’s Vida V1 has gained momentum rather slowly and steadily. While the Vida V1 Pro looks pretty stylish and funky, its performance claims weren’t quite there to match the high asking price. Hero has done quite a bit of rejigging to the V1 and is also planning on making the whole series more accessible by rolling out a low-cost, no-frills variant. Thus, it should also help Hero boost its presence in the Indian electric two-wheeler market as it currently resides in fifth spot in monthly sales.

Bajaj Chetak Low-cost Variant

Bajaj

Bajaj also has similar intentions as its already pretty reasonably priced, barebones Chetak electric scooter could witness a further low-cost trim. Currently, the lowest spec Chetak gets colour segmented LCD screen and a few techy bits like keyless entry and more. Expect the new trim to be far more basic to make it even more viable to purchase.

BMW CE 02

bmw

After launching India’s most expensive electric two-wheeler, let alone e-scooter, in the form of the CE 04, BMW Motorrad’s electric ambitions will continue with the launch of the CE 02. The electric mini bike is expected to arrive by the end of September with bookings for the same already commenced. Head here for more details.

Honda Activa Electric

2

Honda has promised an electric scooter for the Indian market for this financial year. While a lot of its details are kept under wraps, we do think that Honda will be making full use of its swappable battery technology, which it has been testing for the better part of a couple of years in India, with the upcoming electric scooter. It is very possible that the first Honda e-scooter will be a family-centric offering, cashing in on the trust and reputation that the Activa has earned over two decades in service.

Suzuki Burgman Electric

Suzuki

We are pretty surprised that Suzuki hasn’t as yet brought out its first electric scooter till now as test mules of the Burgman Electric have been doing the rounds for ages. The scooter was even shown in production form in Japan at the last Japanese Mobility Show (previously known as the Tokyo Motor Show). But honestly, the scooter shown then had pretty low performance credentials that were far from ideal for Indian scenarios. Hopefully, the India-spec e-scooter is more worthy and capable of delivering the same level of ease and comfort as its ICE counterpart does.

Ola Motorcycles

Ola

From radical concepts to… well… pre-production concepts, Ola’s motorcycles have finally taken a direction. The leader of electric scooter sales will be going the roadster direction with three distinct levels of performance trims on offer. The most powerful one of them all, the Roadster Pro, claims a top speed of 194 kmph and a 579 km range. If it does manage to stick true to its claims or come even remotely close to them, it would be something interesting to ride and experience.
