VinFast is making waves in the Indian car industry with the launch of its new VF6 and VF7 SUVs. While both these vehicles look sharp, are they also techy enough to impress?
Vietnamese car maker VinFast has officially launched in India with two new electric SUVs, marking an important milestone in the country's booming EV segment.
The debut includes the value-for-money VF6, priced starting at ₹16.49 lakh, and the more premium VF7, beginning at ₹20.89 lakh (both ex-showroom, India).
In terms of positioning, the VF6 will square up against the likes of the MG Windsor, Hyundai Creta EV and Mahindra BE 6, while the VF7 targets larger, feature-rich EVs such as the Tata Harrier Electric and Mahindra XEV 9E.
These cars are designed to impress with their bold aesthetics. The elongated daytime running lights (DRLs) and sharp character lines lend a lot of personality to both models.
Step inside and you’re greeted by the contemporary EV formula: a pared-back dashboard dominated by a large central touchscreen.
The layout in the VF6 and VF7 is broadly similar, emphasising clean lines and generous storage. A fixed panoramic glass roof on the higher variants of both SUVs enhances the sense of space, though the panel does not open.
Here’s the controversial bit. Neither SUV gets a conventional instrument binnacle. Instead, speed and battery information are shown on a head-up display (HUD) and on the left section of the infotainment screen.
Having key read-outs off-centre on the infotainment also means a longer glance away from the road than some drivers may prefer.
More importantly, while a traditional cluster sits closer to your line of sight, a HUD sits farther away and its sunlight legibility can vary, something we’ll need to verify outdoors.
Replacing a traditional gear selector is a neat bank of buttons on the lower centre part of the dashboard that is visually cool and easy to get used to.
On the flip side, there are no dedicated knobs or keys for the air‑conditioning; climate functions live inside the touchscreen, which could be distracting on the move.
For India-specific variants, VinFast has loaded these SUVs with cutting-edge features. Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist are standard on higher trims like Wind and Infinity.
Safety tech comprises a high-resolution 360-degree camera, rain-sensing wipers, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, and an acoustic windshield for reduced noise. UV-protected glass and an advanced air filter ensure a healthier cabin environment, crucial for India's varied climates.
While tech-loaded features do make the VF6 and VF7 pretty enticing, their forte will remain something else, because VinFast is sweetening the deal with attractive ownership benefits to lure Indian buyers.
The VF6 comes with a 7-year or 2,00,000 km warranty on the vehicle and battery pack, while the VF7 offers an even longer 10-year or 2,00,000 km warranty, ensuring long-term reliability.
Additionally, both models include free charging at VGreens charging stations until July 2028, a major perk given the high cost of EV charging infrastructure. VinFast also provides three years of complimentary maintenance, reducing ownership costs further.
These incentives make the VF6 and VF7 compelling options for cost-conscious yet tech-savvy buyers in India’s growing EV market.
