Xiaomi’s SUV will soon get a high performance version, possibly with 1,500+ bhp.
Xiaomi has initiated performance testing of its YU7 SUV’s high-performance variant. It has been spied at the renowned Nürburgring circuit.
Initially dubbed YU7 Ultra after sightings in China in July, following the standard YU7’s June debut, recent rumours suggest it will be named YU7 GT, diverging from the SU7 Ultra naming convention.
The YU7 GT is expected to feature the SU7 Ultra’s powertrain, delivering 1,548 bhp and 1,770 Nm of torque. It reportedly adopts the SU7 Ultra’s 21-inch wheels, wider track, and striking six-piston yellow brake calipers.
Design changes from the standard YU7 are subtle yet functional, including extended wheel arches, a lengthened roof spoiler, and larger air ducts in the bumper, observed on camouflaged prototypes.
The YU7 GT’s testing at Nürburgring underscores Xiaomi’s ambition to dominate the performance SUV segment. Its shared technology with the SU7 Ultra sedan suggests impressive acceleration and handling, though exact specifications remain under wraps.
The company’s focus on this circuit highlights its intent to validate the vehicle’s capabilities globally.
Speculation from Chinese sources indicates a year-end announcement for the YU7 GT, with deliveries slated for the second quarter of 2026.
Xiaomi aims to position it as the fastest SUV ever, potentially setting a new Nürburgring record, building on the SU7 Ultra’s legacy as the quickest production EV around the track since its June run, following a prototype record in October 2024.
This move strengthens Xiaomi’s foothold in the electric vehicle market, challenging established players. A record-breaking run could boost its brand image, influencing consumer preferences and pushing competitors to innovate.
The shift in naming also hints at a strategic rebranding, potentially broadening its performance lineup’s appeal worldwide.
