Yamaha R2 India Launch Expected in August, 2026

Yamaha is expected to introduce the much-anticipated YZF-R2 in August, marking the brand's entry into the 200 cc fully-faired motorcycle segment. The company has not officially confirmed the launch timeline, but it has sent a BYD indicating the launch is around the corner. Also, the Japanese brand had recently filed a trademark filing for the 'YZF-R2' name in India. 

The YZF-R2 will be positioned above the popular YZF-R15, and should be a good upgrade for the many R15 owners as the Yamaha R3 was exorbitantly expensive. Another reason for Yamaha to launch the new R2 is the success received by the KTM RC 200 and the fact there is a scarcity of good full-faired motorcycles in the 200 cc segment. The new Yamaha bike is likely to feature a bored-out version of the 155 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine as seen on the Yamaha R15. The new 200 cc engine could deliver 24 bhp and 19 Nm of torque. The bike will feature a 6-speed gearbox and a bi-directional quickshifter. 

The underpinning too could be shared with the Yamaha R15, which includes a deltabox frame suspended on USD fork and a monoshock unit. On the features front, the new Yamaha R2 will get a TFT screen with Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, traction control and multiple ride modes. The upcoming Yamaha R2 is expected to be priced between ₹2 and 2.20 lakh (ex-showroom).
