Yamaha R2 Design & Engineering

Drawing stylistic elements from the global R-Series range, the motorcycle features an aerodynamic front fairing inspired by the R9, flanked by compact bi-functional LED headlights and dual LED position lamps. The rear end incorporates an R1-inspired block-style LED taillight and a MotoGP-influenced swingarm.

The core structure utilises a high-tensile steel tube diamond frame weighing just 14 kg, keeping the total kerb weight down to a segment-leading 149 kg. Suspension is managed by 37 mm upside-down (USD) front forks and a rear monoshock, with the top-tier R2M adding adjustable front forks, rear shock absorbers, and adjustable hand levers.

Yamaha R2 Engine & Gearbox

Powering the bike is a newly developed 204 cc, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, 4-valve, single-cylinder fuel-injected engine producing 26.3 bhp of power and 19.1 Nm of peak torque. The valvetrain incorporates finger-follower rocker arms with Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating derived from the R1 to minimise friction and reciprocating mass.

Power is routed through a 6-speed gearbox equipped with an Assist & Slipper Clutch, alongside a segment-first 3rd generation bi-directional Quick Shifter offered on the upper two variants.

Yamaha R2 Features

Across all variants, the R2 comes standard with a 5-inch full-colour TFT display, dual-channel ABS, 17-inch alloy wheels, and Traction Control System (TCS). Rider modes are managed via Yamaha Ride Control (YRC), offering Street, Sport, and Rain settings.

The top-end R2M further adds a Smart Key System, 3D embossed emblems, a faux suede-finished seat, a silver-finished swingarm, and a shot-blasted muffler end cap.
