This price reduction reflects Yamaha’s attempt to make the YZF-R3 and MT-03 more popular.
Yamaha India has taken quite the progressive step to make the MT-03 and YZF-R3 more appealing to customers. Both sub-400 cc bikes have undergone a massive price reduction to the tune of ₹1.10 lakh, making both significantly more affordable than before. Post the price reduction, the Yamaha YZF-R3 is now priced at ₹3.60 lakh, while the naked streetfighter will set you back ₹3.50 lakh (both ex-showroom, Delhi). This new pricing will come into effect from February 1 onwards.
Regular readers of Acko Drive would know how much we love both the Yamaha YZF-R3 and MT-03. They’re fun and easy to ride bikes are extremely well balanced in that sense. Both bikes made a comeback in 2023 with new stylings being the only highlight. Neither of them underwent any mechanical changes as such. So when Yamaha announced their introductory price, which was almost ₹5 lakh on-road, it was a big let down for us.
What makes this price reduction all the more crucial is the fact that it has come without Yamaha cutting short any features. While it remains to be seen how these Yamaha bikes take off now in 2025, in terms of sales, the brand wants to strengthen its foothold in the premium bike segment and that ambition couldn’t be more clear now. With the price reduction, the Yamaha R3 now is the second most affordable twin-cylinder super sport after the Kawasaki Ninja 300 whereas the Aprilia RS 457 retails for ₹4.10 lakh (prices mentioned are ex-showroom).
