How to get free FASTag immediately

Team Ackodrive24, Nov, 2021

If you have been driving through highways in India, you must already know that toll plazas now collect payments automatically via FASTag.

From February 2021, every car passing through NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) toll booths must have an active FASTag for automatic toll deduction. For those who pay in cash, the toll charges are double the regular amount. Hence, it makes sense to have a FASTag for your car while driving on Indian highways.

How to get free FASTag instantly

Thankfully, it is pretty easy to get a FASTag instantly without having to pay any cost. This article will help you understand how to get FASTag immediately for free of cost.

Generally, you can request to buy a FASTag from an issuer bank or other authorised digital platform. The process requires you to provide the car’s registration number and owner’s ID online. After that, you need to wait for the FASTag to get delivered to your address.

At ACKO Drive, you can enjoy the ease of buying a FASTag online for free without having to step out of your home. The following steps will help you purchase a FASTag at ACKO Drive.

Then, you can get the FASTag to your home address within just 5 working days without having to pay any service fee.

But how to get FASTag in a day?

In order to get a FASTag immediately, you can choose the offline method. There are authorised physical points all across the country to get free FASTag. You can find temporary booths at NHAI toll plazas providing FASTags. Similarly, there are FASTag booths at RTOs, transport hubs, several petrol stations, and service centres. There you can get a FASTag almost instantly.

Steps to buying FASTag offline

The following steps will help you understand how to buy FASTag offline.

  • Step 1: You can use the My FASTag app to locate an NHAI FASTag sale point nearby. Otherwise, you can visit the nearest NHAI toll plaza to find a temporary booth from an issuer bank selling FASTags.

  • Step 2: Reach the location with your vehicle’s valid Registration Certificate (RC).

  • Step 3: Provide other required details of your car.

  • Step 4: Give the owner ID proof. If the vehicle is registered to a company, you can provide your ID as a user of the car.

  • Step 5: Pay the required amount, which will reflect as the minimum balance in your FASTag account. You may also have to pay a security deposit depending on which issuer you buy from.

Can I use one FASTag for two cars?

When you buy a FASTag, it is generally assigned to the registration number of your vehicle. You can alter the registration numbers for a FASTag, but it will cater to only one registration number at a time. If you use one FASTag for multiple registration numbers, it can attract a penalty. Hence, it is better to purchase one FASTag for each car you own.

Can I drive through tolls without FASTag?

Since February 2021, the Government of India has made FASTag payments mandatory for four-wheeled vehicles at NHAI toll booths. The toll plazas don’t accept cash from personal or commercial four-wheelers anymore. Hence, you must purchase a FASTag to drive through tolls on Indian highways.

Where should I install my FASTag on my vehicle?

You will get your FASTag in the form of a sticker. You can stick it on your car’s windshield from inside. The best-suited location would be the top middle section of the windshield. You can stick the tag behind the rearview mirror inside. Once installed, there will be little chance of the tag getting damaged there.

How can I recharge my FASTag?

Once activated, you can easily recharge your FASTag via any digital payment platform, net banking, credit cards, debit cards, or UPI. The process requires you to simply enter your car’s registration number and select the amount you want to recharge the tag with. After the recharge, you will get a notification on the registered phone number.

What are the minimum and maximum amounts I can recharge on my FASTag?

You can recharge your FASTag with a minimum amount of Rs. 100 to a maximum amount of Rs. 1,00,000.

Is there a validity period of a FASTag after purchasing?

After purchasing a FASTag for a particular registration number, it stays valid for 5 years.

How can I manage the toll deductions from my FASTag account?

Though the toll payment amount is deducted automatically at plazas, you get instant notification of the deduction on your registered mobile number. The linked email ID also gets a receipt of the deducted amount. Moreover, you can log in to the FASTag account from the issuer’s online portal to check the balance in your FASTag wallet.
