The recall is related to a problem with the integrated charging control unit (ICCU).

Kia India has issued a voluntary recall for the EV6 due to a problem with its integrated charging control unit (ICCU). The recall affects 1,138 units manufactured between March 3, 2022 and April 14, 2023. The problem with the ICCU is said to affect the performance of the 12-volt battery.

The South Korean manufacturer will update the ICCU software of the affected vehicles. Kia India will be reaching out to the owners of affected units to inform them about the recall. Alternatively, customers can contact their respective authorised dealers. This ICCU issue also affects the EV6’s cousin, the Hyundai Ioniq 5.

The ICCU plays a crucial role in converting the high voltage from each car’s primary battery to a lower voltage suitable for the 12-volt battery. The latter powers features in the car like the air conditioning, infotainment system, and lights. The ICCU also helps manage vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, which allows users to power other equipment using their electric car’s primary battery.

The EV6 is Kia’s only electric vehicle in India. It is powered by a 77.4 kWh battery pack that gives it a claimed range of up to 708 km. The EV6 is sold in two variants – a 226 bhp, 350 Nm, rear-wheel drive base variant, and a more premium 321 bhp, 605 Nm, all-wheel drive variant. The EV6 is priced between ₹60.96 - 65.96 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and rivals the likes of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Volvo XC40 Recharge, BMW iX1 and Mercedes-Benz EQA.
