Triumph India has brought the 2024 Tiger 900 in its GT and Rally Pro variants onto our shores. The former road-focused variant priced at ₹13.95 lakh , while the more off-road-centric Tiger 900 GT Rally Pro variant is ₹2 lakh more at ₹15.95 lakh (all prices ex-showroom India). Building on the same credentials that Triumph Tiger 900 ushered in 2020, the new 2024 variant fine-tunes them now to offer more power, features, and comfort.
By revising the components of the inline-three cylinder engine, Triumph has managed to produce 13 bhp and 3 Nm more than before at 106.5 bhp and 90 Nm. Triumph says that this new engine offers great tractability lower in the rev range, which is atypically complimented by a sweet and characterful sound courtesy of the engine’s T-plane crank and offset firing intervals. But the best part is that despite the increase in peak power and torque, Triumph claims that the engine has now become 13 per cent more fuel efficient than before.
Transmission duties are taken care of by the same 6-speed gearbox, with a Triumph slipper/assist clutch available as standard. The Rally Pro variant further gets the quickshifter aka Triumph Shift Assist as part of the standard package.
Built around a tubular steel trellis main frame, with a bolt-on aluminium rear subframe, the Triumph Tiger 900 GT Rally Pro continues to run on a 21-/17-inch wheel combination, while the GT variant rides on a 19-/17-inch setup.
Suspension duties are taken care of by a 45 mm USD fork and monoshock from Marzocchi with 180 mm and 170 mm wheel travel, respectively, in the GT variant. A 45 mm USD fork and monoshock from Showa with 240 mm and 230 mm travel are available with the Tiger 900 Rally Pro.
The twin 320 mm floating disc with Brembo Stylema 4 piston monobloc calipers for the front wheel and a single 255 mm disc with a single piston caliper take care of braking duties in both Tiger 900 models.
Triumph claims that the redesigned 20-litre fuel tank coupled with the new redesigned and flatter seat of the Tiger 900 offers a very comfortable riding position. Additionally, Triumph has also introduced a new damped handlebar mounting system with the GT model, and the handlebar position in the Rally Pro model has been moved back by 15 mm which not just aides better rider seating comfort with easier reach, but also amplifies control over the bike.
Triumph has also introduced three new paint schemes with the Tiger 900 range. While the GT variant will be available with Snowdonia White colour option as standard, in addition to that it will also be available with two premium paint options, namely, Graphite and Sapphire Black, and Carnival Red and Sapphire Black as its two premium paint options.
On the other hand, the Tiger 900 Rally Pro will be available with Carbon Black and Sapphire Black as standard. Customers can also upgrade to two newly introduced options, namely - Ash Grey and Intense Orange or Matt Khaki Green and Matt Phantom Black.
The Triumph Tiger 900 will ideally go up against the likes of the Ducati Desert X and the Suzuki V-Strom 800DE. However, the Ducati is quite an expensive offering at ₹18.33 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Suzuki at ₹10.30 lakh might be an affordable option, but will lack the finesse and premium quality treatment that is synonymous with Triumph.
