The BSA Gold Star 650 managed to stand apart with its beautiful styling and torque-heavy motor in the highly competitive classic motorcycle category.
One particular segment of motorcycles which has been witnessing a lot of action over the past few years is the classic motorcycles space. The trend continued in 2024 too as we saw 11 new bikes entering the fray and also an all-new brand making its debut in the Indian market. From 330 cc to 650 cc, we saw a varied range of new classic motorcycles making their debut in our two-wheeler space. The jury members really had to dig deep to find a winner as despite the variety in the range of options, they all were bound closely by the relaxed dynamics of a classic bike.
The biggest surprise for the jury was the BSA Gold Star 650. The bike looked absolutely gorgeous and we were smitten by its retro styling. But, what left a bigger impact was the 650 cc engine. Dubbed as the largest displacement single-cylinder engine to be manufactured in India, the wave of torque from the long stroke engine impressed everyone. The Gold Star 650 also offers decent acceleration and the raspy exhaust note adds to the riding experience.
The engine delivered a nice roadster experience, which was amplified by the comfortable ergonomics and the beautiful analogue dials added to the retro vibes. The handling of the BSA motorcycle is impressive for a classic motorcycle, whereas the Brembo brakes ensured that it halted without fuss. To get the retro elements right in such a large displacement single cylinder engine and for its stunning lines, the Gold Star 650 won the TOTMs for the best classic motorcycle of 2025. The BSA bike faced competition from the likes of the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650, Bear 650, Goan Classic 350, Guerrilla 450, Jawa 350, Jawa 42 FJ & 42, Kawasaki Eliminator, Hero Mavrick, 440 and the Triumph Speed T4.
