Tata Cars Teases “Bye Bye Boring” Ahead of Expected Tigor Update Launch on Sept 25

Tata Cars has published a teaser video on its social media channels, ahead of a launch event on September 25. The Tigor subcompact sedan and its electric counterpart, the Tigor.EV, are the next models expected to get a full refresh, following the Tiago facelift earlier this year.

In its animated teaser video, Tata Cars shows a flock of white birds walking down a road, when they are surprised by a solitary purple bird crossing their path. The teaser ends with the words “Bye bye boring, hello stunning”. This could be a reference to the Tigor’s popularity in the fleet sedan market where white is the de facto standard. Tata Cars also sells a version of the electric Tigor called Xpres-T EV, which is commonly seen in use in taxi fleets.

Tata could be consciously moving to distance the 2026 Tigor from its fleet car image. Unconfirmed media reports suggest that the refreshed Tigor could be launched under a new name.

The teaser could also be a reference to a new special edition, which multiple manufacturers including Tata have been launching ahead of the Diwali buying season to stimulate demand.

Design patent images filed by Tata with the Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks earlier this year show what appears to be the upcoming Tigor update. It is expected to get a major design overhaul with sharper lines and a completely new face, in keeping with other recently refreshed Tata passenger vehicles, particularly the Tiago. The patent images also show connected taillamps, a flatter boot, and revised bumpers.

On the inside, the new Tigor is also likely to match the 2026 Tiago, with a new dashboard, large 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless phone charger, and rear AC vents among other cabin comforts. However, the engine options are not likely to change, with the existing 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine continuing to deliver peak power output of 85 bhp and 113 Nm of torque. There will of course be a factory-fitted CNG option as well, based on the same engine but delivering 72 bhp and 95 Nm of torque. Both manual and AMT gearbox options will also almost certainly continue.

This could be an interesting way to reinvigorate the subcompact sedan market in India, offering fresh competition to the Maruti Suzuki Dzire which dominates it, along with the Honda Amaze, and Hyundai Aura.
