The BYD Seal stood out amongst quite the strong competition which included legacy manufacturers like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Porsche.
BYD has been in the Indian market for almost half a decade now. Its newest offering, the Seal, as cute as it sounds, is a proper performance-oriented four-door sedan that can give the likes of the Lamborghini Urus Performante or even the Porsche Taycan a run for its money. It doesn’t compromise on features either with all the modern bells and whistles available here. Lastly, when you factor in the fact that it starts from just ₹41 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the BYD Seal comes across as a strong value-for-money EV. Precisely, the reason why it bagged the Acko Drive Luxury EV Car of The Year Award.
The BYD Seal is available in three distinct variants: Dynamic, Premium, and Performance. The first two are rear-wheel drive models priced at ₹41 lakh and ₹45.55 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), respectively. The last variant is an all-wheel drive model that will set you back by ₹53 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). BYD’s signature Blade Battery technology continues here as well and there are two battery pack options on offer here. The base variant is available with a 61.44 kWh battery that is good for a certified range of 510 km, while the mid and top-spec variants are available with a bigger 82.56 kWh pack that can cover 650 km of distance on a single charge.
Performance-wise, the top-spec BYD Seal Performance comes with a 522 bhp electric motor that takes just 3.8 seconds to dash from 0-100 kmph, which makes this a blisteringly fast car.
The interior of the BYD Seal is a nice luxury space to be in. Exclusive bits like Alcantara leather, perforated seat covers, a nice wide panoramic sunroof all come together really well to give a nice premium feel. Features like dual wireless charging pad, a large 15.6-inch rotating touch screen display, 12-speaker sound system from DYNAUDIO, fully adjustable drivers seat with memory function, etc further amps up the luxury quotient. BYD has even employed a clever air filtration system that gets a boost mode of sorts which when activated takes seconds to purify the cabin air.
All in all, we were really impressed with all the aspects of the BYD Seal. It has all the properties of a luxury car and yet it does not cost a bomb like its competitors which include the BMW i5, Mercedes-Benz EQA and EQS, or even the Mini Countryman E.
