An electric bike with a gearbox that actually sort of makes a big difference to the riding experience.
Electrics contributed a bulk of new products in 2024. While there were a lot of small yet meaningful updates on many, some cool and new innovations really stood out. Of them all, though, the one that really caught everyone’s attention was the Matter Aera 5000, and as a result is the winner for the EV Bike of the Year TOTM.
A budding startup from Gujarat, Matter has been quite radical in many areas with its first electric motorcycle, the highlight being a 4-speed manual gearbox. The performance is equivalent to a 150 cc commuter bike with three riding modes on offer. Realistic range is going to be 125 km in the Eco mode, though.
In the category, we had EV contenders from all price brackets. Right from the entry-level Kinetic e-Luna to the most expensive BMW CE 04, each one of these EVs brought something new and pushed the envelope for sustainable mobility further. However, the Aera struck a right balance in all departments and was the best of the lot.
