BMW has made significant updates to the 4 series models, both aesthetically and mechanically.
BMW has officially unveiled the new 4 series facelift coupe and convertible models for 2025. Alongside, the marque has also updated the M4 coupe and convertible. All models have been thoroughly revamped inside and out and include both mechanical and aesthetic changes.
For 2025, the new BMW 4 series coupe and convertible models now boast a new front fascia. Although the (controversial) shape of the grille remains, it is now adorned with matte chrome surroundings. The front bumper has also been updated and both the 4 Series and M4 now feature a new rear taillight set made up of the same glassfibre bundle technology that debuted with the BMW M4 CSL.
The cabin has also been redesigned, albeit subtly though. For starters, the dashboard has been reshaped, and with that, the air vents have also been redesigned with new trim elements in the form of aluminium, wood, and optional carbon fibre on offer. Additionally, there’s a new flat-bottom steering wheel available with shift paddles as standard fitments available with models fitted with the automatic gearbox only.
In 2025, the BMW 4 series gains two new mild-hybrid petrol engine options paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox only. Starting with the base 420i, it is available with a 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four cylinder engine option that churns out 182 bhp and 300 Nm. With this setup, the 420i can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 7.5 seconds and can reach up to 240 kmph (electronically limited). The 420i is available with rear-wheel drivetrain only
Moving on, the 430i trim is also available with the same inline-4 engine option but with an all-wheel drive setup (xDrive). In this trim, the engine has been tuned to produce 241 bhp and 400 Nm and it can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 5.7 seconds (claimed) with a top speed of 250 kmph.
Both these trims are also available with two diesel engine options and are christened 420d and 430d. The former uses a 188 bhp/ 400 Nm 2.0-litre diesel engine, and the latter uses a 282 bhp/ 650 Nm 3.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine option. The 420d can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 7.1 seconds and the 430d can do the same in just 5.1 seconds.
There’s also the M440i which gets the 3.0-litre inline-6 petrol engine. This mill produces 368 bhp and 500 Nm, and it comes paired with the 8-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive only. With this setup, the M440i can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 4.5 seconds and has a top speed of 250 kmph.
Finally, the creme-de-la-creme of the 4 series, the M4 with its 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged straight six engine is available in two states of tune. In the base-spec M4 version gets a 473 bhp tune and it comes paired with a 6-speed manual and rear-wheel drivetrain as standard. This is followed by the M4 Competition which produces 20 bhp more at 510 bhp. Peak power is delivered at 6250 rpm now, compared to 5600 rpm before. And while peak torque remains the same at 650 Nm, it is held at an additional 230 rpm more, between 2750 rpm and 5730 rpm. The M4 Competiton can also be equipped with a rear-biased all-wheel drivetrain option, however, the 8-speed automatic gearbox remains constant. Interestingly, despite the increase in power, performance has remained the same with 0-100 kmph coming up in just 3.5 seconds.
The revamped cabin in the BMW 4 series now also gains BMW’s latest OS 8.5 system that integrates into a dual-screen display, with several customisation options at your disposal. Moreover, the air conditioning controls are found in a static dock at the base of the infotainment screen which also houses other controls like the volume knob etc as well.
Given that BMW India has already confirmed that they will launch 13 new cars this year. We expect the 2025 BMW 4 series models (coupe and convertible) and the new M4 to make its way to our shores before the end of this year only.
